Hati Indonesia Polyhedra Workshop: An Art Collaboration that Gives Hope
To bring positive energy and hope to the inmates, the Second Chance Foundation collaborated with Scholas Occurrentes to roll out Hati Indonesia Polyhedra Workshop - Tri Hita Karana Universal Reflection Day in 3 Correctional Institutions on 3, 12 & 13 December 2024. This activity invites inmates to reflect, reminisce about their childhood, and channel their creativity through art, in alignment with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs by the United Nations). This workshop provides space for participants who are inmates and children to reflect on their childhood memories while channeling their creativity in the form of works of art to give a "glimpse of light," which can raise their enthusiasm in preparing for a more positive reintegration into society.
Activities for the Hati Indonesia Polyhedra Workshop

The workshop continued with 36 young juveniles at LPKA Class II Karangasem. They are invited to explore childhood memories with family and friends while channeling their imagination into art. This activity encourages creativity and builds a sense of community through collaborative play, which teaches the importance of cooperation and empathy. With a creative and in-depth approach, the assisted children are divided into five groups, which produce various types of toys from used materials in houses, kites, planes, and even ships made using second-hand, unused languages expected to ignite the motivation of the assisted children to move forward with new enthusiasm.

3. December 13, 2024: Bangli Class IIA Narcotics Prison
This workshop, from Narcotics Prison Class IIA Bangli, presented a reflective and creative atmosphere. The 50 inmates involved were allowed to write about their favorite childhood games and channel their creativity into artistic expression. This activity also produced works in dolls, masks, sandals, boats, and various other toys, which were also made from used materials.
The work of these inmates was then displayed in the Hati Polyhedra Indonesia art installation, located on Kura-Kura Island, a collective work of art created by more than 1,500 participants and previously shown at the Jakarta Cathedral during Pope Francis' visit to Indonesia in September 2024. This workshop activity symbolizes hope and positive transformation, equipping inmates and children with enthusiasm and social skills that support their reintegration into society.
Hope and Positive Impact

Heart of Indonesia Polyhedra Workshop—Tri Hita Karana Universal Reflection Day is not just an art activity but also an initiative that touches the humanity of the participants. Through creativity, reflection, and collaboration, prisoners and inmates can experience freedom in creating, creating new hopes, and preparing themselves for a better future.

This initiative shows that art has the power to heal, build bridges between people, and pave the way for positive change. Second Chance Foundation and Scholas Occurrentes succeeded in creating a safe and inclusive space for participants to rediscover the meaning of life and hope amidst the challenges they face.

With activities like this, it is hoped that more institutions and communities will be inspired to support inmate social reintegration through creative and collaborative approaches.
