Second Chance Cup
“‘For Every Child, Every Right’”
Bandung, 19 - 20 November 2024 - In celebration of World Children’s Day on 20 November, Second Chance Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, organized the Second Chance (SC) CUP 2024 Futsal Tournament. This activity is a manifestation of Second Chance Foundation’s (SCF) commitment to play an active role in providing children’s rights for foster children. Children in conflict with the law still have rights that should be fought for, especially those who are currently undergoing a period of incarceration in the Special Development Institute for Children (LPKA). Education is one of the rights of children. Apart from formal education, learning can also be obtained through recreational activities, primarily sports activities that foster sportsmanship, competitiveness, and cooperation.
This mini soccer tournament came about behind seeing the juveniles in LPKA’s interest, potential, and dreams when SCF conducted a Futsal Coaching Clinic at one of the LPKA in 2023. Based on their dreams and supported by the Directorate General of Corrections, SCF, together with three Special Development Centres for Children, namely, LPKA Class II Jakarta, LPKA Class I Tangerang, and LPKA Class II Bandung, as the host, organized a Futsal tournament between LPKA and also invited SMA Nasional Bandung to participate in the competition.
"This activity uses Ball as the main tool. The ball teaches us that life is a dynamic journey. The ball is constantly moving, teaching us never to give up pursuing our goals." said Evy Amir Syamsudin, Founder of Second Chance Foundation.
The hope is that this mini soccer tournament can be a platform for the juveniles to learn to hone their skills, explore their interests, build a competitive spirit, work together, trust their team, and pursue their goals. As a follow-up to the futsal training conducted at the Jakarta & Tangerang Special Development Centre for Children (LPKA), the futsal tournament program promotes sports activities and positive coaching among the juveniles.
As a result of this match, SMA Nasional Bandung won first place, while LPKA Bandung was ranked second. LPKA Tangerang secured third place, and LPKA Jakarta earned the runner-up position. In addition, the Best Player nomination went to Azka Mulyana, and the Top Score nomination went to Anggayuh Dwi Prasetiyo, both of whom were from the Bandung National High School team. Second Chance Foundation awarded trophies, medals, and cash prizes in the form of savings to the winners.
The Second Chance Cup involved 30 juveniles from 3 (three) Special Development Centres located in Tangerang, Jakarta, and Bandung, as well as 10 (ten) students from SMA Nasional Bandung. The children could participate, compete, and show their passion in futsal sports. Participating in an actual tournament taught the children to appreciate fair play in competition, respect the rules, and build confidence to continue pursuing their dreams despite limitations.
